Disaster Relief Committee: Making a Difference Through Community Action
Since its formation in 2019, the Disaster Relief Committee (DRC) has provided critical support during times of crisis. Working alongside local religious organizations and regional associations, DRC has made a meaningful impact both locally and globally, thanks to the generosity and unwavering support of our community.
2024 – Hurricane Helene and the 5K Walkathon for Boone, North Carolina
In 2024, DRC organized a 5K Walkathon on Sunday, November 2nd, at Morrisville Community Park. With the support of our donors and community members, we raised funds to assist families in rebuilding their lives and restoring essential services. Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, claiming lives and leaving widespread destruction. The town of Boone, North Carolina, also suffered significant damage. DRC responded by organizing the walkathon and raising $5,000 to aid the town’s recovery efforts.
2021 – Sending Oxygen to India During the COVID-19 Crisis
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when oxygen shortages threatened lives across the world, DRC partnered with Seva International to raise $30,000 to send oxygen cylinders to India. This effort ensured that life-saving resources reached those in desperate need.
2020 – COVID-19 Relief Efforts in Our Community
Recognizing the struggles within our own community, DRC launched the COVID-19 Community Outreach initiative under the Triangle Area Hindu Temples (TAHTS). Our priority was to ensure the safety and well-being of families affected by the pandemic.
